On feasibility of roll-stamp forming variable-sectional metal channels

Sheet metal channels with variable sections or local features have been widely used in automobile and construction industries, novel forming techniques, such as flexible roll process, flexibly reconfigurable Deakin’s facility, chain-die recently developed to manufacture those channels. In this paper, the feasibility of technique is systematically investigated through experiment finite element simulation by taking 6 types channel products demonstration, including three variable-width variable-depth profiles. The process shows a combination stamping, roll-stamp mode has great potential manufacturing wide variety cross-sections. formability for evaluated limit diagram. can be discomposed into longitudinally stamping vertically, achieve reduction load maximum 33.9% compared conventional flange step product. direction sensitivity feature discussed from aspect web arch height development.
